Timothy and Nancy Kellers’ Songs of Jesus, Psalm 70

June 8, 2020

The context for this Psalm, which is practically identical to Psalm 40, according to the Derek Kidner commentary I read along with the Kellers’ devotional, is David’s need and the necessity of learning how to wait for God act. David’s need is urgent. He is given strength and the necessary faith to wait in the face of danger by remembering God’s previous saving acts. All of this is clarified and empowered done through worshipful, honest prayer.

God’s breath prayer for me today was verse 5, ‘But as for me, I am poor and needy; come to me quickly, O God. You are my help and deliverer; LORD, do not delay.’ Like the Kellers, I ask to be taught to pray with ‘discipline and passion and yet also contentment with Your love and will.’ As Rick and I prepare to give our joint testimony, we pray for the kind of strength and necessary faith David was given.
