Dear Brothers and Sisters in Christ,

Ask for Wisdom in Your Suffering

Matthew 26:39, “39 Going a little farther, he fell with his face to the ground and prayed, “My Father, if it is possible, may this cup be taken from me. Yet not as I will, but as you will.”

Luke 22:44, “And being in anguish, he prayed more earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.”

Christ was honest with His Father about the ‘anguish’ he felt as he faced crucifixion. Jesus knew why he had to suffer. Why do we have to suffer? How do we gain the wisdom needed to help us through the suffering? James says in 1:4, “If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God.”

Suffering is complicated, difficult and confusing. We learn more about the true nature of God and in so doing are able to walk even more closely with Him (Hebrews 12:4-11). at peace with our suffering, joyful in His presence and free to testify fearlessly (Hebrews 4:4-11).

Sometimes suffering is purely to increase the power of our testimony, in biblical terms, to glorify God. For when others see we are at peace with our suffering, joyful in His presence and free to testify fearlessly, God is glorified and becomes a person of great interest to other
